This standard specifies the syntax and semantics of COBOL. This standard specifies: - the written form of compilation groups in COBOL; - the effects of compiling a compilation group; - the effects of executing a runtime unit; —Language elements that depend on processor performance. This standard does not specify: — compilation groups written in COBOL, the manner in which the processor compiles them into executable code; — when a method, function or program is run by a module linked or bound to an activation statement, when appropriate except where binding must occur when the program or method is not known at compile time; - when a parameterized class is extended; - the mechanism for defining a locale on the processor and making it available; - error messages, flags the form or content of information or warning messages; — the form and content listing (if any) produced at compile time; — the form of documentation proposed by the implementer for products conforming to this standard; — resources shared between operating units, except for files .
