Scope

This part of GB/T 17179 specifies the protocols used to provide connectionless network services described in GB/T 15126 and to perform certain network layer management functions. The protocol relies on low-level connectionless services provided by real subnets and/or data links. The low-level connectionless mode services assumed by the protocol can be obtained directly from the connection mode real subnet, or indirectly from the connection mode real subnet, as described in G/T 15274-1994, through an appropriate dependent subnet. The operation of the convergence function (sNDcF) or the subnet-dependent convergence protocol (sNDCP) is obtained. This part specifies the operation of the unified, abstract "low-level subnet services" protocol. Other standards specify methods for obtaining this "low-level subnet service" from a real subnet, such as a subnet that conforms to GH/T 15629.4-1997 or GB/T 16974-1997. This "low-level subnet service" is available from real subnets other than those specifically covered by other standards. This part specifies: a) procedures for the connectionless transmission of data and control information from one network entity to another peer network entity; b) the encoding of protocol data units (PDu) for the transmission of data and control information, Includes variable length protocol header format; c) procedures for correct interpretation of protocol control information; d) functional requirements for implementations claiming to be consistent with this standard. Procedures are defined in terms of: a) interaction between peer network entities through the exchange of protocol data units; b) interaction between network entities and network service users through the exchange of network service primitives; c) interaction between network entities and abstract low-level services Providers interact with each other by exchanging service primitives. This section also provides the PICS form of this agreement, which complies with the relevant requirements and relevant guidelines specified in GB/T 17178.1-1997.
