This International Standard specifies a method for assessing the corrosion resistance of metals by immersion tests in saline solutions with and without applied stress. This standard applies to the quality control of metals, including aluminum alloys and steel materials, during the manufacturing process, and also applies to the evaluation during the alloy research and development process. Depending on the chemical composition of the test solution, this standard simulates the corrosive effects of seawater splash zones, deicing fluids, and acid salt environments. The term "metal" in this standard includes metallic materials with or without a corrosion protection coating. The weekly immersion test is applicable to: - metals and their alloys; - certain metal coatings (cathode and anodic coatings relative to the substrate); - certain conversion coatings; - certain anodic oxidation layers; - Organic coatings on metal surfaces.
