This standard specifies a method for determining the corrosion resistance of metals in salt solutions with and without applied stress in the weekly immersion test. This test is particularly suitable for quality control during the manufacture of metals, including aluminum alloys and steel materials, and for evaluation during alloy development. Depending on the chemical composition of the test solution, this test simulates the corrosion effects of seawater splash zones, de-icing fluids and acidic salt environments. The term "metal" in this standard includes metallic materials with or without corrosion protection. The weekly immersion test is applicable to: - metals and their alloys; - certain metal coatings (cathode and anodic coatings relative to the substrate)} - certain conversion coatings; - certain anodic oxidation coatings; - Organic coatings on metal surfaces.
