Scope
This standard specifies the definition, test methods and acceptance criteria of composite insulators (hereinafter referred to as insulators) for AC overhead lines. This standard applies to composite insulators for AC lines, substation suspension and tension, but these insulators may also be subject to compression or bending loads in some occasions, such as when used as interphase spacer bar insulators. Insulators consist of insulating mandrels, sheaths and end fittings. The load bearing mandrel is made of resin impregnated fiberglass, the sheath is made of polymer material and the end fittings are permanently mounted on the insulating mandrel. Part of this standard applies to hybrid composite insulators whose core rods are made of the same insulating material (such as porcelain, resin), see Chapter 7 for details. The ambient temperature of the insulator installation site is generally between -40 ℃ and +40 ℃. This standard does not apply to line post insulators. This standard does not include requirements for the selection of insulators for specific operating conditions.
