Scope

This standard provides an alternative method for specifying the ratings of variable speed electrical drive systems (PDS) and in particular their basic drive modules (BDM). This standard does not cover variable speed drives for traction. General guidelines for specifying the ratings of low-voltage DC variable-speed electric drive systems and for specifying the ratings of low-voltage AC variable-frequency electric drive systems are given in IEC 61800-1 and IEC 61800-2, respectively.
