Scope

This section applies to AC speed control electrical drive systems including power conversion equipment, control equipment and motors. However, it does not include railway traction drives and electric vehicle drives. This part is applicable to the electric drive system whose converter voltage (line voltage) ranges from AC 1kV to 35kV, the frequency on the input side is 50Hz or 60Hz, and the frequency on the load side is up to 600Hz. Requirements for systems above 15kV are not included and are to be agreed between manufacturer and system supplier. GB/T 12668.2-2002 applies to electrical drive systems with a voltage above 1kV that use step-down input transformers and/or step-up output transformers connected to low-voltage converters (below 1kV). GB 12668.3-2003 gives requirements for electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). IEC 61800-5 gives specific safety requirements for electrical drive systems with voltages above 1kV. This part gives the characteristics of the converter, the topology of the converter and its relationship with the entire AC electric drive system. It also states performance requirements for ratings, normal use conditions, overload conditions, surge withstand capability, stability, protection, AC mains grounding, topology, and testing. In addition, this part gives guidance on applications such as control schemes, torsional vibration analysis, and gives recommended methods for grounding and integration of electrical drivetrain components.
