Scope
The Fieldbus Application Layer (FAL) is an application layer communication standard designed to support the transfer of time-critical application requests and responses between devices in an automation environment. The term "time-critical" is used to express that there is a period of time during which one or more specified actions required must be completed with some defined level of certainty. Failure to perform the specified actions within this time period results in the risk of failure of the application requiring these actions, with an attendant risk to instrumentation, equipment and possibly human life. This standard specifies the interaction between remote applications according to the following clauses: - encoding rules applicable to all application layer protocol data units (APDUs); - formal abstract syntax definition of these APDUs; - processing in the correct order Protocol state machine description of APDU and primitives; ——Mutual mapping between APUD and data link layer services defined in GB/T 20540.3. The design of FAL coding rules assumes that both the encoder (sender) and the decoder (receiver) have a common abstract syntax understanding. In any case, the data type identifier is neither encoded nor transmitted over the network. The purpose of this standard is to define the protocol provided for: - the fieldbus data link layer at the boundary between the application layer and the data link layer of the fieldbus reference model; - the system management and the fieldbus reference model System management at the boundary of the application layer. This part defines the application layer protocol, which corresponds to the application layer service definition specified in GB/T 20540.5.
