Scope: This part of GB/T 19889 gives the following laboratory measurement methods for airborne sound insulation of small building components under the condition of diffuse sound field. The measurement results can be used to guide the development of building elements with appropriate sound insulation properties, and can also be used to classify such elements according to their sound insulation performance and to evaluate the impact of such elements on the sound insulation of partition wall structures in buildings. The applicable objects of this part refer to various building components with an area less than 1 m² and with definite lateral dimensions, but doors and windows are not included. These building elements transmit sound between two adjacent rooms, or between a room and an adjacent outdoor space independent of the building mass. Some examples of equipment applicable to this standard are as follows: - ventilation equipment; - ventilation openings (air conditioners); - outdoor air intakes; - electrical ducts (cable ducts); - transmission sealing systems. This method is not suitable for the measurement of component parts in composite units, since the relative sound transmission of the component parts may depend on the interaction between the various components.
