This part specifies the classification and code of non-heat-treated cold heading steel wire (hereinafter referred to as steel wire), order content, size, shape, weight and allowable deviation, technical requirements, test methods, inspection rules, packaging, marks, and quality certificates. This part is applicable to the round steel wire used in the manufacture of ordinary rivets and screws, bolts and studs and other fasteners and other cold-formed parts. Fasteners and other cold-formed parts generally do not require heat treatment after cold heading and cold extrusion.
