Scope

1.1 This part of GB/T 12001 specifies the nomenclature system that can be used as the basis for the classification of unplasticized polyvinyl chloride (PVC-U) thermoplastic materials. 1.2 Different types of unplasticized polyvinyl chloride thermoplastic materials are distinguished by a classification system. The system is based on the applicable ranges of values for the following characteristic properties and information on recommended uses and/or processing methods, important properties, additives, colorants, fillers and reinforcing materials. a) Vicat softening temperature; b) Charpy notched impact strength; c) Elastic modulus. 1.3 This section applies to mixtures in which all vinyl chloride is an unplasticized homopolymer and the mass fraction of vinyl chloride is not less than 50% of an unplasticized copolymer. It is also applicable to mixtures of chlorinated polyvinyl chloride and one or more of the above-mentioned polymers with a mass fraction of not less than 50%. This section does not apply to materials that are conventionally in the form of powders, granules or crumbs, unmodified or modified by colorants, additives, fillers, etc. This section does not apply to foam plastics. 1.4 This section does not imply that materials with the same name must have the same properties. This section does not provide engineering characters, performance characters, or processing condition characters that are more than required to describe the special use and/or processing method of the material. If necessary, these additional properties can be determined according to the test methods specified in Part 2 of GB/T 12001. 1.5 In order to specify the special use of a certain unplasticized polyvinyl chloride material or to ensure the importance of processing, additional requirements can be given in the fifth character group (see the introductory paragraph of Chapter 3).
