This standard specifies the metallographic and X-ray photographic inspection methods for the welds of PWR fuel rods (hereinafter referred to as fuel rods). The metallographic inspection method in this standard is applicable to the inspection of the penetration depth and defects of zirconium alloy fuel rod girth welds and sealing weld joints welded by electron beam or tungsten inert gas, and is also applicable to the microstructure inspection of welds. The thin film method is only applicable to the welding seams of Zr-Sn alloy fuel rods welded by electron beam. The metallographic inspection of the weld penetration and defects of the zirconium alloy guide tube in the fuel assembly and the weld obtained by other welding methods can also be carried out by reference. The X-ray photographic inspection method in this standard is applicable to the inspection of fuel rod girth welds and sealing welds. Welds of PWR control rods, combustible poison rods, neutron source rods and guide tube components can also be implemented as a reference.
