This document describes the metallographic and X-ray photographic inspection methods for welds in pressurized water reactor fuel rods (hereinafter referred to as fuel rods). The metallographic inspection method in this document is applicable to the inspection of penetration depth, defects and microstructure of samples of zirconium alloy fuel rod fusion welds (including girth welds and sealing welds) welded by electron beam and tungsten inert gas shielding . It is also applicable to the inspection of the dense zone of the weld of zirconium alloy fuel rod welding by pressure resistance welding. The thin film etching method is only applicable to the inspection of Zr-Sn alloy fuel rod welds welded by electron beam. The metallographic inspection of the weld penetration and defects of the zirconium alloy guide tube in the fuel assembly and the weld obtained by other welding methods can also be carried out by reference. The X-ray photographic inspection methods in this document are applicable to the inspection of fuel rod girth welds and sealing welds, pressurized water reactor fuel assembly control rods, burnable poison rods, neutron source rods, and girth welds of guide tube components, and other reactor types are similar Fuel rod girth welds can also be implemented by reference.
