This standard specifies the metallographic inspection methods for nuclear fuel rod welds. This standard is applicable to the metallographic examination of the penetration depth and defects of zirconium alloy (Zr-2, Zr-4) cladding tube fuel rod girth welds and plugging welds, and is also applicable to the weld melting zone, heat-affected zone and matrix metallographic examination. Metallographic defect inspection and penetration inspection of zirconium alloy guide tube girth weld in fuel assemblies can also refer to the provisions of this standard.
