Scope: The part of GB/T 15306 stipulates the dimensions of indexable inserts made of ceramic cutting materials with rounded tool tip, no fixed hole, normal clearance angle of 0° and 11°, precision of G class. These inserts are primarily clamped on turning and boring tool holders from the top. This section applies to G-class non-hole indexable inserts made of various ceramic cutting materials. Ceramic cutting materials are composed of various oxides, nitrides, carbides and metals. For example, such ceramic materials are: oxide ceramics (mainly composed of alumina Al₂O₃), oxide-carbide ceramics (mainly composed of alumina and other materials such as titanium carbide TiC ), nitride ceramics (generally composed of silicon nitride Si₃N₄ and other materials such as yttrium oxide Y₂O₃ and alumina).
