This standard specifies the general requirements for the maintenance, inspection and scrapping of steel wires for cranes and electric hoists. This standard applies to wire ropes used on the following types of cranes: a) cable and portal cable cranes; b) cantilever cranes (column type) , type or bicycle type; c) deck crane; d) mast and cable type mast crane; e) rigid braced type mast crane; f) floating crane; g) mobile crane; h) bridge crane; j) portal or semi-portal cranes; k) railway cranes; l) tower cranes; m) offshore cranes, i.e. mounted on fixed structures supported by the seabed or Cranes on floating devices Note: See GB/T 6974.1 for definitions of various types of cranes. This standard applies to the steel wire ropes used for hooks, grabs, electromagnetic suckers, steel drums, excavation or stacking operations on cranes driven by manpower, electricity or hydraulic power. This standard also applies to wire ropes for hoists and lifting blocks. For ropes on single-ply wound drums, when synthetic pulleys or metal pulleys with synthetic groove pads are used, a large number of broken wires will occur inside the rope before visible broken wires appear on the surface and substantial wear occurs. Based on this fact, this standard does not give the scrapping basis for this combination of applications.
