Scope
This part specifies the evaluation procedures for insulating structures subjected to thermal and electrical stress durability tests at the same time. The test procedures in this part are applicable to the formed winding insulation structure used or proposed for AC motors. The test procedures provide a comparison of the performance of the benchmark and the structure to be evaluated under the combination of voltage and temperature. In the past, temperature and voltage were used to evaluate performance separately. The temperature and voltage should be selected to cause failure of the structure under evaluation and the reference structure within a suitable time frame and under the stress of the actual application. The test results of the structure to be evaluated indicate whether it is better or worse than the reference structure proven by operating experience, but it cannot be used to calculate the operating life. The assessment of this standard does not include stress gradients. The test procedures in this section are not suitable for determining the interaction of thermal and electrical stress during aging and determining the durability curve. If additional information on the interaction is required or in order to determine the durability curve, further tests are necessary, either electrical aging at different voltages at constant temperature or thermal aging at different temperatures at constant voltage.
