- This standard specifies the technical conditions of reference fuel grade toluene for gasoline knock test. The products covered by this standard are applicable to toluene as the main component of toluene-calibrated fuel blend oil for checking the evaluation characteristics of ASTM-CFR octane number measuring machine. Knock test reference fuel grade toluene is blended with knock test reference fuel isooctane or/and n-heptane at a certain volume percentage, which can be prepared into toluene calibrated fuel blends with different octane numbers for ASTM inspection - Evaluation characteristics of the CFR octane rating machine at different octane levels. The octane number of toluene-calibrated fuel blends varies with the test methods adopted by the ASTM-CFR octane number tester. This standard also applies to toluene as a standard reagent and special solvent in standard test methods.
