Scope
This part of GB/T 8923 specifies a series of steel surface preparation grades after high-pressure water jet removal or partial removal of water-soluble contaminants, rust, applied coatings and foreign impurities. The various levels are jointly defined by text descriptions and typical model photos. In addition, this part also stipulates the initial surface state and the level of flash rust after cleaning, which are also defined jointly by text description and typical sample photos. This section describes the visual appearance in relation to the state of cleanliness of the surface. In most cases, it is sufficient to meet the requirements for use. However, for coatings that are likely to be exposed to severe environmental conditions such as water immersion and continuous condensation, ISO 8502 should be considered. The physical and chemical methods specified in each part are tested for the detection of soluble salts and other invisible contaminants on surfaces that have been visually assessed for cleanliness. Although the high-pressure water jet treatment will not produce a rough surface or cause significant changes in the existing roughness, the surface roughness characteristics can still refer to the provisions of ISO 8503.
