Scope
This part of GB/T 8923 specifies a series of treatment grades for steel surfaces after partial removal of the original coating. Various processing levels are jointly defined by text descriptions (see Chapter 4) and typical model photos given in IS (:) 8501-1. In addition, photo samples showing P Sa2 and P Ma treatment grades are given. This part of GB/T 8923 applies to steel surfaces that are pre-treated for coating by methods such as blast cleaning, manual and power tool cleaning, and mechanical grinding. This part of GB/T 8923 uses the visual appearance of steel to indicate its surface cleanliness. In most cases this is sufficient, but for coatings likely to be exposed to harsh environments such as water immersion and continuous condensation, consideration should be given to the use of physical and chemical methods to detect solubility on visually clean surfaces. For salts and other invisible pollutants, see the provisions of each part of ISO 8502 for specific detection methods. Surface roughness characteristics should also refer to the provisions of ISO 8503.
