Scope

Assuming that some individuals in the population have a certain characteristic, P is the proportion of individuals in the population with this characteristic. For example p could be the fraction of defectives in a batch. Randomly and independently select several individuals as samples from the population. This standard specifies the method for interval estimation of the overall parameter p based on such samples.
