This standard specifies the technical requirements for the Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH) Network Node Interface (NNI), including: bit rate of STM-N signals, frame structure of STM-N signals, user signals (such as PDH, ATM and Ethernet) The mapping and multiplexing format of units to STM-N frames, and the definition and implementation of various overheads and functions of STM-N frames at NNIs in synchronous digital networks (including B-ISDN). This standard applies to transmission networks using optical fiber as the basic means in public telecommunications networks, including inter-provincial trunk lines, intra-provincial trunk lines and relay networks. Access networks, dedicated telecommunications networks and wireless transmission networks can also be used with reference.
