This standard specifies the functional block characteristics of Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH) equipment. The general diagram of the functional blocks of the Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (SDH) equipment is shown in Figure 1. The functional definitions in this standard apply to SDH User Network Interface (UNI) and Network Node Interface (NNI). This standard is applicable to transport network system equipment, not all functional blocks defined in this standard are suitable for every application necessary. Different subsets of function blocks in this standard can be selected, and combined in different ways to provide different equipment functions according to the combination rules given in this standard. Network operators and equipment manufacturers can choose which functions are required to implement a certain application. This standard applies to SDH systems used in public telecommunication networks, and similar systems in private telecommunication networks can also be used as a reference.
