This standard specifies that the switch is to be operated by a person through an actuator, or by actuating a sensor. The actuator or sensor can be physically or electrically integrated with the switch, or it can be configured separately, and may also include signal transmission between the actuator or sensor and the switch, for example, electrical, optical, acoustic or Temperature signal transmission. This part applies to appliance switches actuated by hands, feet or other human body movements to actuate or control household or similar electrical appliances and other equipment, with a rated voltage not higher than 480V and a rated current not higher than 63A.
