This standard specifies the minimum requirements (see note 2) and general rules for marking electrical equipment (see note 1) power supply ratings and other relevant characteristics for the correct and safe selection and installation of electrical equipment connected to any power supply. The purpose of this standard is to: - provide general requirements for marking relevant characteristics of any power supply system, such as voltage, current, frequency and power; - provide a uniform method for marking the electrical ratings of products for various product standards. This basic safety standard can be generally applied when the relevant product standards stipulate the minimum requirements for marking on the ratings of electrical equipment, accessories and components connected to any power supply. Relevant product standards may specify some supplementary requirements for the marking of power supply characteristics.
