Scope: There is an increasing need in the test and measurement industry to connect instruments to computer networks. This connection requirement can be either a local area network or a wide area network. This specification is a part of the VXI³ bus series specification, which describes how the instrument can be directly connected to the standard industrial network. The communication and programming paradigms supported by this specification are similar in nature to those supported by IEEE 488.2 devices. The protocol described in this specification allows ASCII messages to be passed between controllers and devices over a TCP/IP network. Readers should have network, Internet protocol group, ONCRPC and IEEE 488.2 and other aspects of knowledge.
