Scope: This specification is a part of the VXI bus series specification, which defines a TCP/IP-IEEE 488.1 interface device. The only networks directly mentioned in this specification are those that support the Internet Protocol Suite. The technology defined in this specification can be applied on other networks, such as the network supporting the OSI protocol standard, but this part does not describe the relevant transformation. This specification uses Open Network Computing (ONC) Remote Procedure Call (RPC) on top of the Internet Protocol Suite. The TCP/IP-IEEE 488.1 interface device can also support other network protocols.
