Scope

This standard stipulates: a) Five types of procedures operating on connection network services: 1) Type 0: simple type; 2) type 1: basic error recovery type 3) type 2: multiplexing type; 4) type 3: error Recovery and multiplexing; 5) Category 4: error detection and recovery. These five types of procedures are specified for the transfer of connection mode data and control information from one transport entity to a peer transport entity. b) a class of procedures (category 4) running on tungsten-connected network services; c) a method of negotiating the protocol class used by transport entities; d) the structure and encoding of transport protocol data units used to transmit data and control information. Each procedure is defined from the following aspects: i) Interaction between peer transport entities by exchanging transport protocol data units; ii) In the same system, transport entities and transport service users exchange transport service primitives iii) Interaction between transport entities and network service providers by exchanging network service primitives. These procedures are specified in the main text of this standard, which is supplemented by the status tables in Appendix A. These procedures apply to instances that support the transport layers of the OSI Reference Model and intersystems that wish to interconnect in an open systems environment. Chapter 14 specifies the consistency requirements for the system to implement these regulations, and provides the PICS proforma to meet these relevant requirements, which is consistent with the relevant guidance given by ISO/IEC 9646-2. It contains no tests that could be used to verify this conformance.
