Scope: This part of GB/T 21782 specifies the method for measuring the density of powder coatings with a gas comparison pycnometer. This method is applicable to all types of powder coatings, and the test is simple, but requires more complicated equipment than methods commonly used to test density. The density of powder coatings can also be determined by the liquid displacement pycnometer method described in GB/T 21782.3-2008. The instrument of this method is relatively simple, but the liquid displacement pycnometer method is easy to get wrong results. Especially the following two situations: one is that the powder coating is swollen after the used replacement liquid contacts the powder coating; the other is that the replacement liquid cannot completely replace the air between the powder coating particles. The determination speed of liquid displacement pycnometer method is slow and the accuracy is low, and it can only be used when it can get the same result as gas comparison pycnometer method.
