Scope

This standard specifies requirements for safety devices used to protect persons from mechanical injury - pressure sensitive mats and pressure sensitive flooring, usually actuated by feet. This section gives the minimum safety requirements, marking and documentation for the performance of pressure-sensitive mats and pressure-sensitive floors. This section applies to the application of various forms of energy (such as electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic or mechanical) pressure-sensitive mats and pressure-sensitive flooring. Pressure-sensitive mats and pressure-sensitive floors specified in this part are designed to sense: persons weighing more than 35 kg; persons weighing more than 20 kg (such as children). This section does not specify pressure-sensitive mats and pressure-sensitive floors that can sense people weighing less than 20kg. This standard does not specify the size or shape of the effective sensitive area of pressure-sensitive mats or pressure-sensitive flooring in relation to any particular application.
