This International Standard specifies DSA behavior related to distributed directory applications. For wide-area DIBs spanning many DSAs, permissive behavior has been designed to ensure consistent service provision. While a directory can be built on top of some general database system, it is not itself part of such a general database system. Catalogs are built on the assumption that queries are far more frequent than updates.
