This standard applies to plugs and fixings, with or without earthing contacts, for indoor or outdoor use, for household and similar purposes, for alternating current only, with a rated voltage not exceeding 50 V but not exceeding 440 V and a rated current not exceeding 32 A type or portable socket. For fixed socket-outlets fitted with screwless terminals, the rated current is limited to a maximum of 16A. This standard does not include general requirements for installation boxes, but only includes requirements for surface-mounted installation boxes necessary for sockets. This standard also applies to plugs incorporated in cordsets and plugs and portable socket-outlets incorporated in cord extension assemblies. This standard also applies to plugs and sockets that are part of electrical appliances, unless otherwise stated in relevant electrical standards. This standard does not apply to: - industrial plug sockets and couplers; - appliance couplers. Plugs and DMZ-type or portable socket-outlets complying with the requirements of this standard are suitable for use in ambient temperatures which normally do not exceed 35°C, occasionally reaching 40°C.
