This standard specifies the guidelines that manufacturers and users should follow when using programmable logic controllers and their peripheral equipment. This standard applies to programmable logic controllers and their related peripheral equipment, such as programming and debugging tools (PADTS), test equipment (TE) and man-machine interface (MMI). This standard applies to devices used to control machinery and industrial processes in low-voltage installations with a rated grid voltage not exceeding 1000 V AC (50/60 Hz) or 1500 V DC in overvoltage category 2. The programmable logic controller and its related peripheral equipment can be regarded as the components of the control system, and can be provided in the form of closed equipment or open equipment. Therefore, this guideline only deals with the interface of the automation system, not the automation system itself (see Figure 1A).
