This standard specifies the syntax and semantics of a programmable controller (PC) programming language. The PC programming languages stipulated in this standard include text language (instruction list (IL) language and structured text (ST) language), graphic language (ladder diagram (LD) language and function block diagram (FBD) language). This standard also describes features that facilitate communication between programmable logic controllers and other components of an automation system. This standard is applicable to the printing representation and display representation of the programming language used by the programmable controller, and the characters used for the representation are characters of the GB1988 character set. Graphical and semi-graphical representations are permitted for language elements defined in this standard, but such representations are not defined in this standard. The programming language elements defined in this standard may be used in an interactive programming environment. A detailed description of such an environment is beyond the scope of this standard; however, such an environment shall be capable of producing textual or graphical program files in the format specified in this standard. Program input, testing, monitoring, operating system and other functions are specified in GB/T15969.1.
