Scope

This part of GB/T 31586 specifies the evaluation method for the pull-off strength of protective paint coatings of any thickness on steel substrates with a thickness of not less than 10 mm. The procedures given in the standard are based on the use of different types of pull-off test equipment, and the test results obtained with these different types of equipment are not comparable. This standard is applicable only if the type of test equipment used and the manufacturer of the equipment have been specified for the breaking strength values of the coating. Typically, this information should be included in the contract documents. This section also specifies the applicable equipment, defines inspection areas, sampling schemes and acceptance/rejection criteria. This section does not give any pull-off strength values for different protective paint coatings.
