Scope: This standard specifies the requirements, inspection and test methods for thread compounds used in threaded casing, tubing, line pipe and swivel shouldered connections. The tests specified in this standard are used to evaluate the performance and physical and chemical properties of thread compound in laboratory conditions. This standard test method is applicable to thread grease formulated with lubricating base grease, but not to thread grease formulated with other formulations. Many regions or sites have environmental protection requirements for this type of thread compound, but this standard does not include meeting the environmental protection requirements. The end user is responsible for investigating these requirements and making decisions about the selection, use and disposal of thread compound and associated waste accordingly.
