Scope
This document establishes a horizontal method for the detection of Salmonella. It applies to the following:  ——Products intended for human consumption or as animal feed;  ——Environmental samples in the area of food production and food handling;  ——Samples from primary production, such as animal feces, dust and swabs. This horizontal procedure is intended to detect most of the Salmonella serovars. Additional cultivation steps may be necessary for the detection of some specific serovars. For Salmonella Typhi and Salmonella Paratyphi, the procedure is described in Appendix D. The selective enrichment medium of modified semi-solid Rappaport-Vassiliadis (MSRV) agar is intended for the detection of motile Salmonella and is not suitable for the detection of immotile Salmonella strains.
