- This standard specifies the heavy-duty vehicle gear oil (GL-5) formulated with refined mineral oil, synthetic oil or a mixture of the two oils as the base oil and added with various additives. The products specified in this standard are suitable for vehicle gears used under high-speed impact loads, high-speed low-torque and low-speed high-torque conditions, especially hypoid gear drive axles for passenger cars and various other vehicles, and can also be used for manual transmissions.
