Scope
This standard applies to external series gap metal oxide surge arresters without insulating support (hereinafter referred to as external gap line arresters, EGLA) for overhead transmission and distribution lines above AC 1 kV, only protecting line insulation [including insulators (strings) and air Clearance] from flashover or breakdown caused by lightning. Since the metal oxide resistors of EGLA are connected to the line through the outer series gap, the following issues will not be considered in this standard: --Operating impulse discharge voltage; --Steep wave and operating impulse residual voltage; --Thermal stability; -- - Long-term continuous current impact resistance; - Lightning arrester power frequency voltage withstand time characteristics; - Disconnector test; - Aging caused by power frequency voltage. Considering the specific design concept and special application of overhead transmission and distribution lines, some unique requirements and tests are introduced, such as verification test of insulation coordination between insulator withstand and EGLA protection level, freewheeling interruption test, mechanical load test, etc. .
