- This standard specifies the requirements for data communications used by nuclear power plants performing Class A functional systems. This standard also specifies the interface requirements for data communication between equipment that performs Class A functions and other systems (including systems that perform Class B and Class C functions and systems that perform non-safety important functions). This standard applies to data communications within nuclear power plant instrumentation and control systems. It does not apply to communications through telephone, wireless communications, voice, fax, email, wired broadcasting, etc. This standard does not cover the internal operation and detailed technical specifications of data communications equipment. This standard does not apply to the internal connections and data communications between the processor unit, its memory and control logic. This standard also does not cover the internal processing of instrumentation and control computer systems.
