Scope: This standard specifies four methods that can be used to determine the diameter and cross-sectional area of carbon fibers. The term "diameter" in this standard applies to all cross-sectional shapes, including the "true" diameter of circular cross-sections and the "apparent" diameter of non-circular cross-sections. This standard is applicable to carbon fiber tow, carbon fiber yarn, carbon fiber fabric, etc. A method given in this standard may not be directly applicable to all types of fibers, refer to the product specification to select the appropriate method. If there is no product specification, refer to the details given in this standard to make an appropriate selection.
