Scope
This standard specifies the method for measuring the yield stress and apparent vis osity of engine oil when it is cooled at a controlled rate for at least 45 hours and finally reaches a test temperature of -10°C ~ -40°C. The apparent vis osity is measured within the range of shear stress 525Pa and shear rate 0.4s ~ 15s. Studies have shown that the apparent vis osity measured under this shear stress shows the best correspondence between the temperature at which the vis osity reaches a critical value and the engine temperature at which a boundary pumping failure occurs. This standard includes two methods, Method A and Method B: Method A combines several devices and can be used for temperature control instruments relying on thermoelectric cooling technology and the latest direct refrigeration technology. Method B can use the equipment used in Method A, or it can use methanol cycle refrigeration equipment. The precis on in Method A of this standard is applicable to the determination of yield stress in the range of less than 35Pa ~ 210Pa and apparent vis osity in the range of 4300mPa • s ~ 270000mPa · s, but higher yield stress and apparent vis osity can also be determined. This standard applies to both unused oil and used diesel engine oil and gasoline engine oil (including light and heavy load engine oil). Suitability for petroleum products other than engine oil has not been determined. This standard covers certain hazardous materials, operations and equipment, but is not intended to make recommendations on all safety is ues related to this Therefore, users should establis appropriate safety and protective measures and determine the applicability of relevant regulatory limitations before using this standard.
