EN ISO 13856-2:2013 Safety of machinery - Pressure-sensitive protective devices - Part 2: General principles for design and testing of pressuresensitive edges and pressure-sensitive bars
This part of ISO 13856 establishes general principles and specifies requirements for the design and testing of safety edges and safety rods that are used as protective devices and not as actuators for normal operation. This part of ISO 13856 applies to safety edges and switching rods, with or without a reset device, used to detect persons or their parts of the body that may be exposed to hazards such as those caused by moving parts of machinery. The document is not valid for determining the suitability of a safety edge or switching rod for a specific application of technical protective measures; In addition to specifying minimum values, to select a corresponding performance level for safety-related parts of controls (SRP/CSs); for the dimensions or the form of arrangement of the effective actuation surface of switching edges or switching rods with regard to a specific application; for stopping devices ("stopping devices") according to IEC 60204-1, which are only used for normal operation, including emergency stops, of machines. Requirements for the "information" to be provided by the manufacturer are listed to assist in the selection of an appropriate safety edge or switch rod and its use. Additional requirements may be necessary where safety strips or switching rods are used in places that are accessible to old or disabled people or children.
