Scope
This standard is equivalent to the international standard ISO 1001 (1979) "Tape labeling and file structure for information processing and exchange". This standard specifies the file structure for information exchange, and specifies the label format for identifying files, file sections and tape reels. This standard specifies the label format for four levels, the block structure and usage of the tape label, so that these tape volumes can be used for information exchange. The purpose of this standard is to facilitate the exchange of information on magnetic tape between different users and different computers. The means to achieve this goal is to record the labels identifying the file and constructing the file on the disk, and provide a description method for the basic attributes of the storage file record blocks. This International Standard enables the user to consider only the logical structure of the document. This standard specifies four labeling levels. Provides an upwardly compatible labeling system for simple to complex computing systems, ensuring a minimum amount of information exchanged between these systems. In most cases, a general-purpose operating system will be used to implement the provisions of this standard, while in some cases only computing stations or user-written input and output routines may be used, within the scope defined in this standard, to provide The label processing routines of the operating system perform similar functions. Recorded tapes are required to correspond to one of these four levels if they are to be exchanged between structured systems. For those data that are not intended to be exchanged between systems with different structures, the four provisions of this standard may not be used. It is the intent of this standard that it is not necessary to include all provisions of the standard in every instance of fulfillment of the standard, but rather that they all produce and receive volumes consistent with the level chosen by the performer. Failure to comply with this standard may result in loss of switching capability.
