Scope
This part of GB/T 2406 is a guiding document for conducting OI tests, which provides guiding information about the testing process of ISO 4589-2 and ISO 4589-3. ISO 4589-2 describes the test method for the minimum oxygen concentration required for the material to maintain combustion under the specified test conditions when a mixed gas of oxygen and nitrogen is introduced at 23 °C ± 2 °C. The result is defined as the OI value. In order to facilitate quality control, the determination method of whether the OI value of the material is higher than certain specified values and the test method of the film with a thickness between 20 μm and 100 μm are also given. ISO 4589-3 describes the method for the above-mentioned determination at a specific temperature range from 25°C to 150°C (up to 400°C). The result is defined as the OI value at the test temperature. ISO 4589-3 also provides a method for measuring the temperature of a small vertical sample when the OI value is 20.9. This temperature is defined as the combustion temperature. ISO 4589-3 does not apply to materials with an OI value below 20.9 at 23°C.
