This International Standard establishes a common framework for describing the life cycle of man-made systems. Defines a set of procedures and associated terms. These procedures can be applied at all levels of the system structure. Throughout the life cycle, a selected set of processes can be used to manage and implement the various phases of the system life cycle. This is done through the participation of all parties involved in the system, with the ultimate goal of customer satisfaction. This International Standard also provides processes to support the definition, control and improvement of life cycle processes for use in an organization or project. This standard addresses man-made and systems that can be configured from the following elements: hardware, software, people, processes (such as review processes), procedures (such as operator instructions), equipment, and naturally occurring entities (such as water, organic matter, and minerals). This International Standard does not specify life cycle processes with methods or procedures that are required to meet the requirements and outputs of the process. This standard does not deal with the title, format, explicit content and medium of the document.
