Scope
This British Standard specifies a method of test to be used for small unprotected cables where, in addition to the requirements of BS EN 50200, a means of applying a water spray to the cable during the test is required. Compliance with the requirements of BS 5839-1:2002, 26.2d) may be demonstrated using this method. NOTE This water spray application is included as an option in a proposed amendment (prAl) to EN 50200 that is currently within CENELEC Procedures. UK has been granted derogation from standstill in respect of the publication of BS 8434-1:2003. It is emphasized that the fire tests do not assess a fire hazard, nor can the results of the fire tests alone guarantee safety. They only provide information to assist in the assessment of the suitability of a cable for a given application.
