Scope
1.1 Scope This part gives guidelines for the insulation coordination procedures of HVDC converter stations without standard insulation level regulations. This part is only applicable to the HVDC part of the HVAC power system, not to industrial converter equipment . The given principles and rules apply only for insulation coordination purposes. This part does not involve the requirements for personal safety 1.2 Background description In the HVDC converter station, since the converters are composed of thyristor valves connected in series or in parallel, and the commutation process adopts a unique control and protection method, the HVDC converter station Compared with AC substations, there are special requirements for protection and overvoltage of protected equipment. This part provides guidelines for calculating overvoltages for converter station equipment subjected to AC and DC voltages, harmonic voltages, and impulse voltages. Determining the protection level and optimal protection scheme of series-parallel arresters is proposed. This part describes the basic principles and design objectives of the different parts of the insulation coordination between the converter station and the conventional AC system. Regarding the protection of arresters, this part only deals with the current use in HVDC converters. Station gapless metal oxide arresters. The requirements for the basic characteristics of the arrester and the calculation process of the maximum overvoltage action in operation are given; the typical protection scheme of the arrester, the parameters of the arrester and the determination method of the effect are put forward. This part covers the insulation coordination of equipment between the AC busbars of the converter station (AC filters, converter transformers, circuit breakers) and the DC line side of the smoothing reactor. It also covers the influence of overhead lines and cables on the insulation coordination of converter station equipment. Although this part applies to ordinary HVDC systems (the commutation voltage comes from the AC filter bus), the main principles of insulation coordination also apply to capacitor commutation in the appendix. (CCC) converter and controllable series compensating converter (cscc) and some special converter structures in the appendix
