1.1 General This guide describes the basic requirements, verification procedures and main verification methods for the application, level classification, type evaluation and preparation of evaluation details for software testing of measuring instruments. It serves as a guiding document for type evaluation of measuring instruments and can also be used by metrology management departments. A reference document for software testing by daily supervision and management and accounting equipment manufacturers. The verification/calibration of the measurement characteristics of measuring instruments should comply with the corresponding national metrology verification regulations or measurement calibration specifications. 1.2 Application The purpose of this guide is to support fair and consistent measuring instrument software testing methods and level classifications and to make the test results of measuring instrument software evaluable. The application requirements for measuring instrument software proposed in this guide cover different types of measuring instrument software. Each metrology professional technical committee should refer to this guide to formulate corresponding software evaluation rules and procedures according to the classification or application field of the technical characteristics of the measuring instrument, and put forward its specific requirements. The following technical requirements can be directly applied to software that controls measuring instruments: 1) Software that affects the measuring characteristics and plays a key role should be specially identified and protected. This identification should be easily accessible and evidence of the protection of the software should be maintained for a sufficient period of time. 2) The storage or transmission of measurement data and important metrological parameters should be adequately protected to avoid accidental or intentional damage. 3) Measuring instruments should have characteristics that prevent fraudulent use and at the same time minimize the possibility of misuse. 4) The measurement characteristics of the measuring instrument should not be affected by the characteristics of the equipment connected to it or the remote equipment (including wireless access equipment) communicating with it.
