Scope
This standard defines the important concepts of functional size measurement (FSM) and describes the general principles for applying the FSM method. For the following activities, this International Standard does not provide detailed rules on how to: - use specific methods to measure the functional size of software; - use the results obtained by specific methods; - select specific methods. This standard can be used to determine whether a software size measurement method is the FSM method. It does not prevent the development of different methods, but provides a basis for evaluating whether a particular method is consistent with the FSM. This standard may be used by those individuals involved in acquiring, developing, using, supporting, maintaining, and auditing software.
